The Alexander Technique is a way to educate one's self to get out of their own way in any activity

The Elements

Picture
Guided Experience
The Principles of the Alexander Technique simply make more sense when paired with a guided, hands-on experience given by a trained teacher.
Picture
Inhibition
How often have you been asked to not do something? That is Alexander's "inhibition." More specifically, students of the Alexander Technique practice stopping what they want to avoid (i.e. a "bad" habit).

Direction
After one successfully stops a "bad" habit, that's when an Alexander Technique will encourage the student to head in a helpful direction within themselves.
If this all seems absurdly vague to you, never fear. It's not that you don't get it, it's that you haven't experienced it yet. This is why a guided experience from a trained Alexander Technique Teacher is so important.

A Small Biography

Sam Brown

Sam was introduced to the Alexander Technique as a musician. He had been told to "relax" and utilize his natural "weight." After desperately trying to figure this out, Sam decided he needed some guidance, and the Alexander Technique beckoned.

Sam holds a Bachelors degree in Music Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Masters degree in Music Education from the University of New Mexico.

Sam completed the American Society of Alexander Technique Teachers (AmSAT) certification program in the Spring of 2020. He learned from the wonderful Karen DeWig at the Alexander Technique Center of Albuquerque.
